INTRODUCTION

Overview

Evidence-based policies, procedures, and guidelines are essential for delivering high-quality care in wound clinics. It is important that these documents be easily accessible to all clinic staff. To ensure effective implementation, familiarity with these documents should be addressed through competency-based staff education programs. This topic offers a list of sample resources for creation and ongoing updates of policies and procedures in wound care and hyperbaric medicine (HBOT). Definitions

Policies are high-level guidelines that provide a framework for daily activities and decisions.
Procedures provide steps needed for staff and clinicians to adhere to policies or complete a process.

Relevance

Policies and Procedures can guide a Wound Care Program to success through compliance with applicable Federal and State laws, regulations, guidelines and policies.
One of the requirements for earning accreditation from the Joint Commission is for organizations to maintain policies and procedures that guide patient care, treatment, and services. Leaders should review, approve and manage the implementation of such policies and procedures.[1]
