Hyperbaric Nurse Manager
JOB SUMMARY
This position requires a customer-service oriented individual with strong interpersonal skills. Independent decision-making is expected in the execution of all duties. The Nurse Manger is responsible for the quality of the wound care and hyperbaric medicine services provided, monitors clinical standards, participates in other assigned duties and meets organizational performance standards. The Nurse Manager is responsible for all aspects of assigned unit activities, collaborates with leadership, departments, and physicians to improve the care of patients served in the wound care and hyperbaric medicine center. The Nurse Manager is accountable to the Medical Director and the Board of Directors:
- Ensures safe and adequate staffing for patient volume and acuity
- Accountable for day-to-day operational activities in the wound care and hyperbaric medicine center.
- Assists the Medical Director with the development of policies, procedures, and protocols for wound care and hyperbaric medicine center.
- Assists the Medical Director in the development of a quality assurance program.
- Works in conjunction with the Medical Director and Safety Director in the development of in-service programs for all levels of hyperbaric personnel.
- Works in conjunction with the Medical Director and Safety Director to ensure an on-going and effective safety program.
- Ensures appropriate marketing of the wound care and hyperbaric medicine center.
- Responsible for the safe and effective operation, control and maintenance of the hyperbaric chamber system and supporting component.
- Works closely with Safety Director to ensure compliance with all department policies and regulatory requirements.
- Ensures that all technical personnel meets standards set by various licensing and regulatory agencies.
- Accountable for coordination of unit-based orientation and education.
- Accountable for ongoing, effective communication with multidisciplinary team members.
- Coaches and develops staff to meet job responsibilities; completes performance evaluations on staff
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING
- Must hold a current nursing license in the state in which the nurse is practicing
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certificate
- Must have documentation of successful completing of a 40-hour Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS) – approved Introductory Hyperbaric Medicine Course.
- Certified Hyperbaric Registered Nurse, Advanced Certification Hyperbaric Registered Nurse (ACHRN) designated by the Baromedical Nurses Association (BNA).
- Should have a working understanding of the codes and regulations that govern the operation of a hyperbaric medicine facility.

Job Specific Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities
a. Assisting in the coordination of hyperbaric patients.
b. Oversight of the day-to-day operation of the hyperbaric facility.
c. Maintaining competencies, continuing education, and certifications as appropriate to the position.
d. Performing patient care within the scope of practice as a Nurse. Keeping complete and accurate patient records as they pertain to assessment, treatments, and documentation of care.
e. Oversight of the quality assurance program.
f. Oversight and collaboration with the Medical Director and Safety Director in the safety program.
g. Participates in organizational committees and task forces as requested.
h. Participates in the discussion and review of articles in the field of hyperbaric oxygen.
Assessment
a. Assesses the patient’s level of functioning on admission, transfer, and discharge. Differentiates findings from defined limits of normal.
b. Uses professional judgment in day to day problem solving and decision making. Seeks assistance from Clinical Coordinator and peers as needed. Assists others.
c. Assesses patient’s educational needs and develops a plan to meet these needs.
d. Assesses discharge needs and communicates to team members.
Planning
a. Follows the plan of care in collaboration with the patient care team.
b. Provides care in consideration of the length of stay and patient/family needs.
c. Reviews discharge care with patient/family/physician and other team members.
Intervention
a. Administers medications and treatments according to patient needs, physician orders and policies, consistent with the scope of care for a registered nurse.
b. Participates in patient/family conferences as a member of the patient care team.
c. Utilizes patient teaching to provide new information to the patient/family. Utilizes patient teaching according to policy.
d. Collaborates with the Medical Director, physicians, and other caregivers to provide effective patient care.
e. Documents care on appropriate forms.
f. Delegates tasks appropriately to team members.
Evaluation
a. Evaluates patient’s response to treatment utilizing knowledge of disease process and patient’s story.
b. Evaluates patient’s progress on the plan of care.
c. Evaluates patients continued learning needs and provide feedback to the Clinical Coordinator.
Other
a. Demonstrates flexibility in meeting the staffing needs of the department.
b. Utilized staffing and scheduling guidelines to identify staffing needs.
c. Participates in new employee orientation.
d. Performs other duties as assigned.
e. Maintains clinical expertise in the area of specialty.
f. Participates in performance improvement activities.
