Hi, just a safety HBO question. We have a patient being evaluated for HBO for ORN, with CT findings of mild bronchiectisis and bronchiolectisis. No blebs and assuming pulmonary function tests are not showing severe disease, are there any concerns?
Thanks,
Bill

Bill,

I could not find anything specific with regards to HBO and bronchiectisis and bronchiolitis. There was one paper from 2019 (https://bmcpulmmed.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s12890-019-0893-8) that looked at PFT changes with HBO, there were none, but these were in healthy patients. If this patient wants to proceed with HBO, you may want to consider a Pulmonary consult for clearance. I would talk with the pulmonologist first and let them know specifically what questions you need answered. If you choose to treat the patient I would definitely us a slower compression/decompression rate (1ft/min). I will continue to look for a better answer to your question.
