Hi, Are there any known issues with concurrent use of Zytiga and HBOT. We have a patient with radiation cystits and hematuria, history of adenocarcinoma of the prostate in 2012, >7000 cGy radiation, seed implants, radical prostatectomy, currently being treated with both Lupron and Zytiga as he has metastatic lesions. Urology is requesting HBOT as he has repeated episodes of hematuria, with cystoscopy performed 2 weeks ago showing radiation cystitis. His most recent CT/PET scan was read:
1. Radical prostatectomy.
2. Tiny-small, significantly tracer avid lymph nodes identified in the basal left neck, left supraclavicular region, retroperitoneum and pelvis consistent with metastases. About 10-15 lymph nodes in total are identified.
Based on my knowledge of studies regarding HBOT with active cancerous lesions, there is no evidence that treatment would accelerate tumor growth, and treatment would not be contraindicated. Appreciate the advice.
Bill

Hi Bill, thanks for this question. I know of no contraindication specific to Zytiga and HBO treatments that occur concurrently. However, you may want to closely monitor blood pressure as both may cause an increase, especially surrounding HBO treatments. I also agree, that retrospective clinical data does not indicate a contraindication to HBO and active cancer or metastatic cancer.

Thanks for the question.
