We have a patient who is diving for Late effects of radiation. The patient is only able to come on Monday Tuesday and Friday. Would this be a beneficial treatment plan for the patient, or should patients really only use HBO if they can complete 5 days a week?

Lisa ... great question. I always hesitate to give a 'firm' answer for this one. Obviously, we prefer (like radiation therapy) to get treatments every day of the week ... some skip Saturday and/or Sunday. But, where is the data that states this is a gold standard?

There is a paper from Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle ... Hampson and Corman ... 2007 UHM Journal. While a retrospective study, it still gives good data and hints at frequency of HBOT vs. outcomes for STRN.

Have a read of the paper attached. As long as the patient receives the 30 or 40 treatments, it really doesn't matter the frequency of administration. We tried to get at least 3 treatments per week. And, if we could, get 2 treatments each day the patient would give us ... so 2 treatments Mon/Tue/Fri if the patient could do it.

That's the best I can tell you ... and it's a well-formed guess.
