Hello, I was wondering if velcro trach collars were allowed in Monoplace chambers.

James,

Thank you for your question. Please give me more details about the collar brand. As a general rule, I prefer to avoid using Velcro in the monoplace chamber.

The hyperbaric safety director needs to perform a risk assessment on this item, as there is a perceived risk of static-producing materials. This risk assessment should also include input from the Medical Director.

Please let me know if you have nay additional thoughts.

Have a great day!

Thank you so much Mr Mize for getting back to me. I (safety director) wanted to avoid sending the patient in with the velcro trach collar as well but did not have any substitutes. Have you heard of anyone securing the sides of a trach tube with tegaderms/tape?

James, One possible solution to consider is modifying the current trach collar by eliminating the Velcro portion and using transpore (plastic) tape to secure it. This modified collar could be reused during treatment, provided that it remains clean and undamaged.
