EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

Consistent with the hospital’s credentialing policy, and to include:

    • Must be an M.D. or D.O. graduate holding a valid diploma from an accredited medical school.
    • Must be Board Certified or Board Eligible in a recognized medical or surgical specialty.
    • Active, unrestricted state medical license
    • DEA license
    • Wound care certification (e.g. CWSP) from an accredited program, or eligibility to obtain certification from an accredited program
    • Written and verbal communication skills (Computer skills necessary)

    PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

    Job Responsibilities:

    1. Supervision:
      • Assist in the day-to-day supervision, and coordination of the wound care staff.
      • Assist in the proper day-to-day operations of the wound care program.
      • Assist the Clinical Nurse Manager or Director in the evaluation and selection of new clinical personnel.
      • Supervision of the Clinical Nurse Manager or Director
      • Coordinate with affiliated medical institutions to provide necessary services, including hospitalization and emergency medical care.
      • Ensure competencies of the medical staff 
      • Provide input and review the budgetary process
      • Coach medical and nursing staff to perform at a high level of patient care
    2. Administration:
      • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards related to wound care.
      • Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop and implement evidence-based protocols and best practices for wound care.
      • Monitor and evaluate patient outcomes and implement improvement plans as needed.
      • Collaborate with the administrative staff with the goal of achieving sufficient administrative support.
      • Designate a qualified physician staff member to act in his/her absence
      • Along with the Clinical Nurse Manager or Director, review the evidence that supports new and existing products in the organization
    3. Clinical:
      • Oversee the quality of medical services rendered by the wound care program and ensures it meets current standards of practice.
      • Oversee adherence of patient care protocols
      • Consult, examine and treat patients with wounds
      • Keeps complete and accurate medical records
      • Assist, as appropriate, in the medical supervision of clinical staff.
      • Be readily available to manage patient emergencies that may arise during wound care appointments.
      • Maintain communication with referring medical providers.
      • Conduct appropriate patient discharge, follow-up, and referrals.
    4. Education and Training:
      • Provide continuing education to staff on wound care, including the latest advances in wound healing and product reviews.
      • Together with the Clinical Nurse Manager or Director, assist in the development of an on-going program for orientation and in-service training for all levels of wound care clinicians.
      • Support opportunities for clinicians of the wound care program to attain the proper amount of continuing education in order to maintain a current professional license.
    5. Personal and Professional Development:
      • Actively stay current with the latest developments in wound care through ongoing educational activities.
      • Engage in self-development through corporate training, coaching, and participation in professional associations.
    6. Professional Network Development:
      • Regularly deliver formal presentations to diverse audiences, including medical staff meetings, hospital department meetings, grand rounds, local medical and community organizations, and service clubs, to enhance the visibility of the wound care program and support local education and awareness.
      • Actively schedule and participate in one-on-one discussions about the wound care program with primary care and surgical specialties.
      • Foster strong relationships with interdisciplinary specialties to ensure timely and appropriate consultative patient care.
