Kevin Gardner's Background
Before entering healthcare, Kevin Gardner served as a Firefighter and EMT Advanced, and he continues to maintain those certifications today. During that time, he also successfully operated his own business, gaining experience in leadership, operations, and customer service skills that would later support his work in clinical and hospital environments.

Kevin began his career at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center in 2012 as an ED Technician and Health Unit Coordinator.

In 2014, seeking a new challenge, he explored the field of Hyperbaric Medicine. After shadowing the hyperbaric team several times, he found himself drawn to the complex, safety driven nature of hyperbaric operations.

In 2015, Kevin transitioned into the role of Hyperbaric Technician and soon thereafter earned certification as a Certified Hyperbaric Technologist. Over the years, he advanced to become the Hyperbaric Program Coordinator.

He has completed formal training to serve as Safety
Director for hyperbaric operations at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center, where he has dedicated more than 10 years of service.

Kevin is a two time recipient of Aurora’s Patient Safety Excellence Award, recognizing his commitment to quality, safety, and high reliability practices.

He is an active member of the Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS), serves on the UHMS Safety Committee, participates on the Accreditation Forms Expert Panel, and contributes nationally as a UHMS Facility Accreditation Surveyor.

Beyond hyperbaric medicine, Kevin plays a significant role in hospital preparedness. He is the Co-Chair of Aurora’s Emergency Preparedness Committee and serves as a liaison during Incident Command activations, supporting coordinated emergency response efforts across the organization.

OVERVIEWHyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a non-invasive painless mode of therapy. A patient receiving HBOT breathes 100% oxygen, at a pressure greater than sea level, while in an enclosed medically certified pressure vessel. This results in a dramatic elevation of oxygen in the blood, tissue and body fluids. HBOT can result in blood oxygen levels 15 times greater than blood oxygen levels in normobaric conditions.  Learn more about hyperbaric oxygen therapy (see topic "What is
