V.A.C. Granufoam Silver Dressing is a Negative pressure wound therapy dressing.
INTENDED USES: Provides an effective barrier to bacterial penetration. It helps reduce infections in wounds.
CLAIMED FEATURES: Direct and complete contact. The only silver dressing that allows the V.A.C. GRANUFOAM™ Dressing pores to come in direct contact with the wound, eliminating the need for additional silver dressing layers that may inhibit negative pressure and granulation. Micro-bonded metallic silver is uniformly distributed throughout the dressing, providing silver even after sizing. A single application of V.A.C.® GRANUFOAM SILVER™ Dressing eliminates the need for adjunct silver dressings. The protective silver ion reduces aerobic, gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria, and may help reduce infections in wounds.

Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT), with either durable or disposable devices, is a method of wound care to manage wound fluids and help wounds heal. The vacuum assisted drainage collection (i.e., NPWT) may be applied to try to cleanse the wound by removing fluids and stimulate healing.

In NPWT, your clinician will use a device that will apply negative pressure (suction) to the wound. Negative pressure is applied under airtight wound dressings to promote the healing of open wounds resistant to prior treatments.

Different types of dressings made specifically for NPWT may be used with the pump your clinician and you choose for your situation. Some dressings are made of gauze and others are made of a special type of foam. Dressings are usually changed 1-3 times a week.
