If a person cannot easily move without help and stays in bed for long periods of time, heel or elbow protectors can be used to help prevent or treat pressure ulcers/injuries (bed sores). However, in addition to using elbow or heel protectors, to effectively prevent pressure ulcers/injuries, persons with no mobility need to have their position changed at least every 4 hours.
Protectors can be purchased from medical supply stores. Please refer to table "Other Stores" below for pricing and suggestions on where to purchase this product "out-of-pocket" (without insurance). If there are no vendors listed and you would like to have information on suppliers, please email info@woundreference.com.
