McKesson Wound Contact Layer Dressing is a contact layer wound dressing.
INTENDED USES: Can be used on a variety of different wounds when used with an outer absorbent dressing. . They can also be used as protective layer on superficial wounds that are not discharging and on areas of skin that are very fragile.
CLAIMED BENEFITS: Channels allow exudate to transfer vertically into a secondary absorbent dressing and aid delivery of topical treatments. Designed to allow wound fluid to easily transfer into a secondary dressing. Protects the wound and the skin. Prevents an outer dressing from sticking to the wound. Because the dressing is translucent, it allows the caregiver to asses the healing progress without having to remove the dressing. Not made with natural rubber latex
Contact layer dressings are thin, non-adherent sheets placed on the entire wound to prevent adhesion of the overlying dressing to the wound. They are porous and allow the fluid that comes from the wound to be absorbed by the overlying dressing. They are not meant to be changed with every dressing change and can be left in place for a week. Because they are designed to be non-adherent and skin-friendly, a wound contact layer is ideally suited for wounds where the skin tissue surrounding the wound bed is fragile. They are indicated for moderate to heavily exuding wounds.
