89 year old with wound across chest that began as a small wound in left breast and spread over the past 9 months to right breast, she has breast cancer, treating with comfort measures now, I would like some advice on treating the wound across her chest , I have been using calmoseptine around the wound, before we had diagnoses of cancer, I used hydrofera, honey gauze and silver alginate to help with absorption. Thank you for your help,

Jill,
The goal of co.fort care is just that...comfort! As we know the wound will not heal, goals for wound care are focused on controlling pain, odor and exudate while minimizing dressing changes. If what you've done before (Hydrofera or honey, etc.) has met this goal, there would be no reason to change. I find that I can control fungating odor using metronidazole (either the gel or crush one or two 250mg. Tabs and sprinkle on the wound ) helpful

Thank you for your response, I feel so bad she is going to spend the rest of her days like this. I wanted to make sure I was doing everything for her. I wasn’t sure if I should have put the picture up, but unless you see the extent, it’s hard to recommend treatment. She likes the honey gauze and I have been continuing with that. I really appreciate your consult. I hope I can consult with you again, Have a Blessed day, Jill
