Patient: 66y/o male who had a radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer. Margins were positive as were the seminal vesicles. He then underwent external beam radiation to a total of 6800 CentiGrey. He has had problems with urethral stricture and delayed healing of his Vescio-ureteral anastomosis. He has not had symptoms which are typical of cystitis or proctitis. Would this patient be a candidate for HBO under late effects or soft tissue radiation? Thank you for your comments.

Lisa,
The easiest way to justify HBO is to ask the Urologist if the patient’s symptoms are related to soft tissue radiation injury. Have any biopsies ( besides the prostate) been performed after the patient finished radiation? If the urologist feels that the patient’s symptoms are related to the radiation, then you have made your case.
